Donald J. Trump was elected the 45th U.S. president on January 20, 2017. Although he lost the 2016 popular vote to Hillary Clinton by 2.8 million votes, he won the electoral college 304 to 227 therefore winning the presidency. President Trump's last day in office was January 20, 2021, losing to Joseph Biden in the November 3, 2020, election by more than 7 million popular votes. Biden also won the electoral college vote 306 to 232.
